Fort Finishes Fall in Fantastic Fashion

Fort Lewis Men’s Lacrosse traveled to Denver for a round-robin tournament at Regis University on Saturday, November 8th.  For the second straight year, the Skyhawks went undefeated, going 3-0 to win the annual Gold Rush Tournament.

The Fort bested the RMLC’s newest member, the Wyoming Cowboys, by a large margin in the first game.  The second game, against the host Regis University Rangers, was also a blowout in favor of Fort Lax.  In both games the Skyhawks displayed domination in all aspects of play from start to finish, showing patience and the ability to play at a high speed in order to control the pace of the games.

In the final game the Skyhawks took on Metro State College in a battle of 2-0 teams.  The Fort would never trail, despite sloppy and physical play from both teams that led to a lot of penalty situations.  In the end, the 4-0 start by the Fort would be the difference in the 10-6 final score.

The Skyhawks showed a lot of heart and tenacity as they started the weekend with only 17 players due to assorted injuries to regular starters, then suffered several more over the course of the day.  Luckily, the team won’t see game action again until the start of their season on February 7th so they have time to heal.  The team got amazing contributions from everyone on the team, including goals from 4 different freshmen.  In fact, only 5 players, all on the defensive side of the ball, failed to record a point on the day.
