IRVINE – The Skyhawks men’s lacrosse team stumbled out of the gate to start the 2019 season, dropping three straight while in California to open the season.
The trip started Wednesday with a 24-8 loss against Cal State Long Beach. Thursday’s contest with #20 Loyola Marymount was just as lopsided with the home Lions winning 23-4. Saturday the Skyhawks finished the trip with a 24-7 loss against UC-Irvine.
“We had a lot of guys on the field for the first time in a couple years or the first time ever, and it showed.” Coach Mudrak said. “We have a long way to go, but the potential is there for this team to turn the season around and make a run.”
Scott Dimmit and Zach Majewski finished the three game stint with 6 goals a piece. Sophomore attackman Connor Worrall scored 5 times this week for the Skyhawks. In net, Kevin Cassedy, playing his first college lacrosse games averaged 17 saves a game for Fort Lewis, drawing the praise of coaches.
“We have a couple weeks off now to retool the defense before we start conference play against Wyoming on the 30th.”
