MISSOULA — The Fort Lewis Skyhawks concluded a three game swing over the weekend, splitting a pair of scrimmages and falling 19-6 to the #12 Montana Griz on Friday night in Missoula.
The Skyhawks travelled light only suiting up 10 players for the game but battled hard against the Grizzly who followed up the performance with a 9-6 loss to #1 North Dakota State two days later.
For the Skyhawks, Jacob Branch Boyle led the way with 3 goals while Scott Dimmitt added another. Freshman Ethan Kurvolech notched his first career goal with the Skyhawks scoring on a man up opportunity in the 3rd quarter.
The Skyhawks began the trip in Ogden, Utah with a Wednesday evening scrimmage against the Wildcats of Weber State. After a sloppy start, Fort Lewis found their rhythm enroute to a 13-2 victory.
The final game of the road trip featured a re-match of the RMLC semi-final from last season, in which the Skyhawks were welcomed to Bozeman to play a scrimmage against Montana State University.
The Skyhawks fell 13-3, frustrating the Bobcats for most the game with a stingy zone defense.
“We’ve been facing adversity all year, so showing up with limited numbers didn’t impact the psyche of our guys one bit.” Coach Mudrak said, “these guys played with guts this weekend and earned a lot of respect out there. I’m extremely proud of them.”
The Skyhawks return home to host Northern Colorado this weekend.
