Skyhawks Give Rude Welcome to Wildcats

Fort Lax jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the 1st quarter against Johnson & Wales and never looked back.  Eight more goals in the 2nd quarter made the score 15-1 Fort Lewis at halftime.  The Skyhawks played possession lacrosse and spread the ball and playing time around for the rest of the game on the way to a 19-3 final score.  Ten different players scored for the Fort, led by Max Segal’s 3 goals and 3 assists.  Trevor Leahy got the game ball for his 3 goal effort to go with his 4 saves as the goalie in the 4th quarter.  The Skyhawks also saw defensemen Shaun Koenig and Garrett Swartzendruber score their first goals of the season as everyone seemed to get involved right from the start. In the end, the story of the game was dominance in the transition game that led to a lot of possession time and easy scoring chances for the Fort.

This was J&W’s first trip to Durango in their inaugural season in the RMLC.  Some enthusiastic Fort Lewis fans didn’t make it any easier on the visitors, as the Skyhawk faithful were eager to cheer on the home team in perfect spring weather.  The Fort is back at it tomorrow at 2:00pm against the Regis University Rangers, again on Cedar Field.  The game is another must-win for the Fort to secure a playoff berth in the RMLC playoffs on May 2nd-3rd in Grand Junction.
