DURANGO – Fort Lewis closed out the regular season at the Smith Complex Sunday afternoon, beating Western State University 16-2. The result followed a Friday night win over Southern Utah University 15-13. With the wins, the Skyhawks close the 2022 season 2-5 in conference and 4-6 overall.
Cullen Robinette led the way on the weekend racking up 8 goals and 8 assists in the two games, including a 5 goal, 4 assist performance in the win Friday night against Southern Utah.
Not far behind was Karl Schenck, whose 5 goals and 2 assists in each game paced the attack for all teams playing on the weekend.

On the defensive end, Parker Sanchez showed up in a big way Sunday, intercepting 5 passes and collecting 3 groundballs in the game against Western. Fellow freshman Mahlon Mitzel also had his best game of the season Sunday, picking up 7 groundballs.
Despite the sub .500 record, the team made huge strides this year and were two 3-goal games away from a playoff bid. The team looks to return almost the entire roster next year in what should be an exciting season for Skyhawk fans.
“I told these guys from the beginning, if they stay together, all come back next year and the year after, that these guys are going to be a special group, and they’re going to win a lot of lacrosse games. I think they want to see that vision come to fruition.” Said HC Tom Mudrak after the season. “Coming in to this year, Cullen [Robinette] had played two college lacrosse games, and that was the entirety of our college lacrosse experience, so to get through those rough patches, grow as a team, and get some wins with a team of true freshmen, it was really impressive, these guys played hard, I can’t thank them enough.”
