Skyhawks Open Season with a Win
The Skyhawks opened the season with a 22-6 victory over the Sooners of Oklahoma in Albuquerque, NM. FLC was happy to escape the three feet of snow that has fallen on Durango the last two weeks, playing under sunny skies and 60 degree weather in New Mexico. A great team victory with 11 of the 17 players that day getting points. Senior Captain Chad Murphy (5G, 3A)and Matt Lindsley (3G, 5A)led the team with eight points each. The Skyhawks took a 17-3 lead into the fourth quater. Goalie Peter Gavinksi had 10 saves, allowing 6. Thanks to Coach Westfall and Mooney of UNM for hosting this game.
Hawks Get it Done Second Half vs Lumberjacks
Fort Lewis out scores Northern Arizona 7-2 in the second half to come from behind for the 11-8 victory. Andy Grenhart leads the way with four goals for the Skyhawks. After a suggish 1st half the FLC defense picks it up and holds NAU to 2 goals.Chad Murphy and Tom Ross chipped in 3 points (2G,1A). Matt Lindsley, Tyler Pousson, and Dan Reicks scored one. Peter Gavinski turned back 16 while allowing 8 in the net. Next up is San Diego State Sunday.
FLC goes down 17-7 to WCLL Div I San Diego State.
The Skyhawks rebound from Sundays loss with a 15-0 shutout victory against last years WCLL DII champs UC Irvine. Pete Gavinski recorded 12 saves in the win. Dan Riecks lead the way with 6 points (1G, 5A). Nine players recorded points.
FLC Finishes Spring Break Trip on a High Note
The Skyhawks finish out their spring break trip with a convincing 20-5 victory over the Cal Fullerton Titans. 11 of the 17 FLC players recorded points, led by Matt Lindsley (3G, 4A) Chad Murphy (2G, 3A) and Dave Swift (4G. Strong defensive play from Kevin Burns, Matt Cawley (1G), Steve Matt, Jon Bock, Andrew Ramsey, and Dan Riecks held Fullerton to 5 goals. Pete Gavinski recorded 13 saves in the win.
First Home Game of 08 Season a Good One for Skyhawks
Fort Lewis jumps out to a 10-0 first quarter lead and goes on to win 22-6 vs Regis University. Eric Johnson (5G,6A) gets 11 points in his first game of the year. Chad Murphy (5G) and Tyler Pousson (4G,1A) add to the scoring. 12 Skyhawks in total scored points, including Durango’s own Kellen Seitz and his first collegiate goal. Pat McGrath controls the X while adding a goal and an assist. Pete Gavinski had 6 saves. Next up for the #7 Skayhawks is RMLC foes Mines and Metro.
Orediggers Go Down Easily
The #7 Skyhawks traveled to Golden to take on the #24 Mines Orediggers. A pair of goals for Erik Johnson (3G, 4A) and Matt Lindsley (3G) gave the Fort a 4-0 1st quarter lead. A hat trick in the second quarter for Chad Murphy (4G), along with goals from Lindsley and Tyler Pousson (3G) gave FLC a 9-0 lead. The Skyhawk defense of Dan Riecks, Kevin Burns, Matt Cawley, LSM Steve Matt and Peter Gavinski (12 svs, 2 GA, 1A) didn’t allow a Mines goal until 3:04 left in the first half. FLC would outscore Mines 7-1 in the second half to cruise to a 16-2 victory. The defensive unit of Brian Christopherson, Jon Bock, and Andrew Ramsey played solid only allowing one goal in the second half.
